Need Some Space? Head to Niue

Niue, an ex-colony of New Zealand, has the world’s smallest population (if you discount Vatican City), at about 1,400. There are another 48,600 native Niueans scattered around the world, who left the Pacific island to escape the struggle against poor soil, lack of resources and a parliamentary system that has one MP for every thirty citizens. To address the dwindling population and other problems, New Zealand came up with a solution – to send Australian and New Zealand old folk there for their retirement.
