Next time you see a mouse run through the airport cafe, don’t be alarmed – it’s probably just on its lunch break. Mice are being trained to sniff out drugs and explosives on passengers and cargo. The mice are put in a box close to where passengers walk. If they smell a banned substance they run into a separate chamber, triggering an alarm. In a trial they correctly identified 22 explosives being carried by 1000+ people, with a false positive rate of <0.1%.
