Amateur Night at The Apollo

Every Wednesday evening since 1934 (except for a current hiatus due to the staging of Dreamgirls) Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater, Harlem, has been the place for singers to go to launch their careers: Billie Holiday, Ben E. King, Jackie Wilson, Ella Fitzgerald, Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, The Isley Brothers and Blu Cantrell among many others. Tom Jones started out as a chauffeur to the stars there too.

If you are lucky you can tag along on an all-singing, all-dancing tour with the irrepressible Billy Mitchell, who has worked at the theater since he was nine-years-old.
