DART Center for Journalism and Trauma

The DART Center for Journalism and Trauma has produced a series of tips for journalists who have to interview victims or relatives in the aftermath of a tragedy. The Dart Center is “dedicated to informed, innovative and ethical news reporting on violence, conflict and tragedy” and is run out of Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. It offers research, training, seminars and awards for journalists who cover traumatic stories.

Crossing the Line: Abuse in Hawai’i Homes won the 2009 DART award for journalism for its authors Kevin Dayton, Rob Perez, Jeff Widener, and Russell McCrory.
