LAX Caravan Park

The Los Angeles Times carried an article about “one of America’s most unusual communities in the United States”, which is made up of airline workers, including pilots and mechanics who have made a parking lot their home.  A cluster of 100 RVs sit close to the edge of the runway and the inhabitants live with the roar of landing planes. When they need to shower they go to the nearby fitness centre. The recession has brought a drop in rank for many pilots and a move away from their families to stay in work, so living in a motor home is a way to survive and conserve their money.  Residents are now screened after a period when outsiders moved in bringing with them garden gnomes and BBQs; prostitutes also arrived to try their luck, they’ve now been chased out.
