Last week, the second Pan African Festival opened (and runs until 20th July 09) in Algiers, Algeria, forty years after the first one. The one-and-a-half opening parade featured several hundred performers, including fire-eaters, Arab fighters on horseback, Congo’s Pygmy hunters, Kenya’s Masai and Mali’s Peuhl tribesmen and trapeze artists. During the festival 8,000 artists, dancers, singers and academics will be attending plays and seminars.
