Greenlit: Blackpool Lights, Channel 5

Blackpool Lights (3 x 60′) –  This character-led series delves into the goings on of this most British of seaside resorts. The characters are so much larger than life that you couldn’t make them up…

The cameras move in with real-life North Pier comic Joey Blower, whose dearest wishes are to lose weight, clean up his act, and find a girlfriend he could take home to meet mother.  There are business and romantic partners Steven and Leigh who run the D’Lovely B&B and who are looking forward to Blackpool’s Gay Weekend. Then there is aspiring tycoon and local “King of Slots” Chris Higgitt who shows us some of the inside tricks of the amusement arcade game. We meet Alan Haworth from ‘Haworths famous bingo’ as he desperately tries to conquer his fear of flying so he can travel to meet the love of his life whom he only knows via the internet. And then there is the compulsory ever-grumpy taxi-driver Dean, who has an entertaining new complaint about every new passenger he picks up.

All the characters live and work and are desperate to succeed in a resort where, at the height of the Summer season, being bold and brash are essentials.
