Greenlit: Lost Heroes of World War One, Channel 5

Lost Heroes of World War One  (5 x 30′) – A documentary series that draws on a unique archive of veteran interviews to tell the story of the war in the words of the men and women who lived through it – our last first-hand account of the conflict.

Over the last two decades, Steve Humphries of Testimony Films interviewed 100 veterans of the First World War about their experiences of the conflict. They tell the story of the war in their own words: moving, often shocking, occasionally funny and frequently surprising, but always startlingly vivid and honest. Among those interviewed are Harry Patch and Henry Allingham, who died in 2009 aged 111 and 113 respectively. Dougray Scott, star of Mission Impossible II, Enigma and Regeneration, narrates the films. The films are stripped across the week in the following order:

  • The Call to Arms
  • The Bloodiest Battle
  • The Home Front
  • Deadlock
  • Journey’s End.
