50 Documentaries to See Before You Die (5 x 60′) – As part of a month long Season (August 2011) on the feature documentary genre, Morgan Spurlock hosts run-down of the best documentaries of the last 25 years.

Over the course of five one-hour episodes, in his unique and inimitable way, Spurlock counts down fifty of the modern documentary era’s most powerful, provocative and moving films eventually revealing what our panel of preeminent film critics, academics and industry insiders have chosen as the most entertaining, powerful and influential modern documentary. This is not your average list show – Spurlock will embark on a road trip to track down the figureheads behind some of the most remarkable moments in contemporary cinema. He’ll meet maverick directors and eccentric contributors, travel to iconic locations and explore the impact that feature documentaries have made on both their subjects and society.
The most influential filmmakers are interviewed including; Michael Moore, Errol Morris, Al Gore, Nick Broomfield, Kevin Macdonald, James Marsh, D.A Pennebaker & Chris Hegedus, Penelope Spheeris, Steve James and Alex Gibney.
The series forms part of a bigger season in which Current TV will air theatrically released docs after each episode; including including the UK premieres of Gasland (nominated for Emmys & Best Doc at the Oscars 2011) and Food, Inc. (nominated for the Emmys and Best Doc at the Oscars in 2009) and launching the season with Supersize Me.
