Greenlit: Mermaids: The Body Found, Animal Planet

Mermaids: The Body Found w/t (1 x 120′) – In the early 1990′s, the United States Navy began a series of covert sonar tests that were linked to mass die-offs of whales washing up on beaches around the world. These beachings were well-publicized, but startling amateur video and photographic evidence – much of it never released until now – suggests that whales were not the only creatures affected by the Navy’s sonar. In 1997, scientists monitoring underwater microphones recorded a mysterious sound deep in the Pacific Ocean, a sound from an unidentified creature unlike any other animal recorded. What made that sound, dubbed “The Bloop,” has remained one of the greatest mysteries of the oceans, until now…

  3. Was dumbfounded all throughout the documentary. With that, I found the question of whether mermaid exist or not, moot. Now,I am still torn between wanting to know about them more and wanting to leave them in peace, if that is so they wanted. But just the same, i wish we human beings could protect them, even it means from our own.

  6. I would like to know when it would be airing again as well. Tried searching for it and the only thing I came up with was it in Spanish on youtube. Which I don’t understand why it would be allowed in Spanish and not in English on youtube.

  16. is this documentary real does anyone know?

    Posted by annie | August 31, 2011, 8:46 am
  17. The reason why you cant find info on the ‘scientists’ in this documentary, is because it was all scripted and fake. Look it up on IMDB if you dont believe me as well. I only saw the preview, and searched the internet for it, and found that it is all fake, scripted from some fan.
Now i dont wish to watch something that isnt true. But yes, this is fake, you go through the entire film, and then at the end it admits it was only a fiction.

Pathetic, although i’d be a good watch, i only like to watch these to educate myself on REAL things. :/

  18. Any idea when this program will be shown again on Animal Planet? My husband watched it and told me about it,but alas,it hasn’t been shown since then.

  19. The show is obviously fake. The video that the the boys took with their cell phone just ruined the whole thing. That couldn’t have been taken with a cell. It was obviously edited, the clips of how life was before was and the mermaid in the video the boys took, looked exactly the same in editing.

  20. i looked up the 2 dr’s that was in that video. found them both with history of working at noaa. however both sites i looked up, the page came up with a great big emblem of the justice dept and homeland security and it said both sites had been blocked by these two dpt’s due to seizure of information. but i agree the cell phone footage looked totally fake

  21. I am so disappointed. This was NOT a documentary. There should have been a disclaimer at the beginning of the program. I believe Mermaids was created as a way to spread the Aquatic Ape theory. This belonged on the SciFy channel because it was PURE FICTION!

  23. Wouldnt the existence of mermaids dissprove religion and the existence of god and prove the theory of evolution?

  24. I believe that this show was designed to spark conversation. So many questions haven’t been answered. Nobody has all the answers but there is plenty of truth being told in this story as well as plenty of speculation. There is plenty of evidence out there to make a person believe there are mermaids out there in our oceans but then again most people believe with their eyes and not they’re common sense. For there to be thousands of pictures depicting the mermaid along with proof of fish being hunted with primitive tools and people still don’t believe.
I find this to be one of the most fascinating shows I’ve seen on tv in a long time. Yes this could be all fictional but its hard to dispute that some of what they’ve shown is fact. Awesome conversation piece Animal Planet!

  25. I found this program to be interesting, yet I would like a response from the government regarding a possible cover-up. I do feel the camera phone photo was edited for entertainment purposes, but the initial close-up may have been real.

If mermaids are real, I do think they appear more fish-like than what the boys camera phone depicted, and the evidence may be within the “great white.” But then again, sharks eat a lot of things; and this could have just been a mixture of stomach contents. Food for thought. At any rate, if these creatures are real, leave them alone. And if the government is covering it up, they are the ones sabotaging them and the earth. The government needs to be accountable for their deception including Roswell.

  26. are you really doubting this?Did you not get a good look at what they found?Tell all of us what you do believe,do you belive in God?If so why would this be so hard to believe in?Unless, you’ve never believed in anything

  27. I see peolple angry with the navy and sonar, but if it wasn’t for the navy, we could be knee deep in arabs. I am sorry about the animals, but my children are more important. who would give up one of their children or other family member to save an animal. animals are great, but not before my family, or yours either.

  28. I just finished watching this and call me crazy but it seems extremely believable that mermaids would exsist.and my mother has always told me stories about my grandfather and greatgrandfather whom both claim to have seen mermaids during thier tours in the navy. However I do believe they said the show was fiction because obviously those videos of mermaids were made for the dockumentary.

  29. “mermaids are acceptable to me (but HOW do they breathe,eh?) Many years ago I spent an enormous amount of time in the Pacific as scuba & free diver as well as fisherman, etcetera. Was often in company of dolphin and seals and WE attempted commo frequently……….never met up with a mermaid (damn it!!!) Swim on ………..NWG

  30. Um, to the person who commented “Wouldnt the existence of mermaids dissprove religion and the existence of god and prove the theory of evolution?”
No why couldn’t God have made mermaids to. How can one ever even begin to speculate the nature and decisions of the divine anyway. What if evolution and God are both real and God simply gave the beings if earth the ability to change and survive?

    Posted by Devin | June 12, 2012, 4:41 pm
  31. It was interesting to watch whether you believe in mermaids or not. I was disappointed with direct tv who made a mistake on their programming. because when it came on the guide showed it as an episode of “River Monsters”. I dont know why DTV made that mistake or was it intentionally done by the government as a cover up……lol.

  32. Then why is everything blocked, and the NAVY is still with secrect sonar testing, beaching hundreds if not thousands of whales. . . and GOD knows what else. Open a public dicussion, let’s find out who is telling the truth and who’s lying. . . I don’t personally buy the NAVY’s stand on ignorance concering this issue, and what there is to be hidden on this subject. Ifthere IS another human race living in the ocean, then we owe them at least that much

  33. NOAA should stand up for what they know is right. . . How many jobs are worth the preservation of an emtire species!!!!!!

Posted by Jacob runnells | July 1, 2012, 2:54 am
  34. Apparrently the “aquatic ape” theory is an actual theory posed to explain some of our human traits.. it was the only part of the mocumentary that had any basis in fact.

Posted by Steve Popplewell | July 16, 2012, 7:13 pm
  35. I believe ppl should voice concern about the use of sonar. Obviously, it is a dangerous weapon, killing animals we don’t want to become extint as well as a possibility of one we didnt know exist! Of course some pple would want us to believe this story is not true. Always thought there ws some truth to the stories/myth of the mermaid. I hope mermaids will beware of man.

  36. That was a very interesting piece if any of it was true. I just saw it for the first time early August 2012. I don’t think it helps to have CGI mermen and maids flitting about all over the screen at unnatural speed with storylines that are pure conjecture. If these remains are real the science community should unite and get to the bottom of it with extreme prejudice.

    Posted by Earl | August 10, 2012, 4:04 am
  37. I seriously doubt that the ‘science comm’ty’ will speak on this. Govm’t or the ‘secret weapons’ part of it won’t allow it. It might be a good idea; ppl are cruel to animals for the most part–don’t need a bunch of half-drunk fools w/rifles in boats looking for mermaids!

Posted by ms tlrob | August 11, 2012, 8:58 pm
  38. has anyone considered the option that the tsunamis have been a reaction to these sonic testing.

  39. Guy’s dig a little deeper. This was a spoof by a leader in REAL documentaries! It was a big joke. If you trace the “DOJ” blocks they all orriginate from animal planet. DOJ would’ve just shut the site down. Do you really think they would’ve left that on to FUEL this “truth” they were trying to hide. There is no “Dr. Paul Robertson”. FICTIONAL! This is very bad on Anmal Planets part. Being recognized as a place to get ACTUAL truths on the animal kingdom. As for me, what else has AP faked?! Perhaps evolution? In order to discredit intelligent design. Come on SHEEPLE!!!
