Greenlit: Meals on Wheels, BBC2

Meals On Wheels (4 x 60’s) – A chance to see a distinctive new side to the Hairy Bikers as they turn their unique approach to the social issue of provision of “meals on wheels”.

In the wake of the Blitz, war-torn Britain united to deliver hot meals to families whose homes had been destroyed. Sixty years on, the children of that ‘baby boomers’ generation are reaching retirement during a time of recession. Over the series we will see the Bikers get to grips with a community who – with the Bikers’ help – are determined to carry on providing daily home-delivered hot meals for their elderly population.

In this landmark series for BBC Two, it is the Hairy Bikers’ mission to reignite the Dunkirk spirit in order to get meals back on their wheels.

The series is a fast-paced look at history, heritage and cooking, using heart-warming recipes, fascinating local characters, and a delicious serving of social history.
