Chris Shaw has been appointed to the newly created role of Editorial Director at ITN Productions. He will expand the news and current affairs production within the division, and devise new formats across television, online and mobile.
In his most recent role, Chris was Senior Programme Controller for Channel Five where he was responsible for news and live topical output. During his 11 years at Five, he commissioned more than a thousand hours of factual programming including Five News (winner of three RTS Awards) and The Wright Stuff. Chris was also responsible for recruiting many of Five’s best known names, including Natasha Kaplinksy, Kirsty Young and Paul Merton.
Prior to Channel Five, Chris held several senior editorial positions at ITN. As Launch Editor of the original Five News service, he pioneered a new informal style of presenting and reporting which had a huge influence on broadcast news in Britain and abroad. Before that, Chris was Programme Editor of News at Ten, Home and Foreign News Editor of Channel 4 News, and Launch Editor of the Big Breakfast News.
Chris is a Fellow of the Royal Television Society, a Director of Edinburgh TV Festival and a regular media commentator across leading press and broadcast outlets.
