Scientific Accidents

An article in Slate suggests that it is much more dangerous to be a student working in an academic lab than it is to be a worker in an industrial lab. In recent years, there has been an electrocution at Cleveland State University, an explosion in a Stanford University lab, exposure to botulinum toxin at Tufts University and an explosion in a laser lab at the University of Rochester. Students safety is put at risk by lax safety standards and lack of equipment, resulting in serious injury or even death.
