Where: First on Mars is a new site that allows you to legally watch more than 10,000 US TV shows online – it’s a free, slick, and fast site that you can search by show, channel or your mood (like Pandora or Last.FM). Browse and save your favourite shows from channels such as: ABC, History Channel, Fox Reality, A&E, FX, MTV, VH1 and Spike.
What: Factual shows currently available include: Intervention, The First 48, Criss Angel, Manhunters, Parking Wars, Dog the Bounty Hunter and Design Squad.
Why: Every time you add a channel or programme to your favourites, First on Mars will update your home page with other shows that might interest you.
All the shows are established, so it’s not much use for new programmes, but great for getting a feel for the character of different channels and invaluable for pre-US pitch research for anyone who’s never pitched there before – these are the tried and tested shows that everyone knows. If you’ve never heard of seen them, you’ll look like a doofus.
