Generating Ideas

Trend Spotting Newsletters You Should Subscribe to if You Want to Generate New TV Ideas

Marketing and advertising people are constantly looking for new trends and insights.

The advantage of these newsletters is that you’ll get access to a story faster than if you wait until everyone else reads about it in a Sunday newspaper supplement.

A trend does not make a programme idea, but it can provide a good starting point for an idea.

For example, an article about the construction of six-star hotel in Dubai might get you thinking about:

·A fly-on-the wall series in a luxury hotel, or

·A format where staff from failing hotels are sent to improve their customer services skills by working in top-end hotels, or

·A documentary following the lives of the hotel’s construction workers on minimum wage living between two worlds.

Trendwatching.com, springwise.com (which specialises in new business ideas), and trendhunter.com are good places to start.
